The West Chatham Swim Team won its fourth YMCA League title on July 23.
Matching their aquatic skills against five area YMCA teams, the approximately 50 swimmers, ranging in age from 5-18 years, amassed an impressive 38 first-place finishes, earning a combined total of 743 points.
Their closest competitors were the Effingham YMCA Swim Team, with a total score of 440, followed by Islands YMCA Swim Team, with 352 points.
Local elementary school teacher and West Chatham’s head swim coach Chris Cooper steered the team through those winning seasons and said this was another great season.
“The kids swam so well. I am proud of each and every one of them,” Cooper said.
“It has been an awesome four years coaching this team. The league has actually grown and next year we will be adding two new YMCA branches.”
